The Government has announced a one-off NHS vaccination programme to help protect young people who are at the highest immediate risk of Meningococcal Group B (MenB) disease ahead of the usual autumn peak in meningitis cases.
Who is eligible?
You may be eligible if you are:
- A Year 13 student (or equivalent) this summer.
- Under 25 years of age and starting university or residential further education for the first time this autumn.
Please note: This programme does not include postgraduate students or those entering their second or subsequent year of university.
International students under the age of 25 who are entering their first year of university are advised to receive their first dose in their home country, where possible.
How will the vaccination be delivered?
The programme will be delivered through participating community pharmacies and is expected to begin from the end of July.
Eligible individuals will require two doses of the MenB vaccine:
- First dose: From July
- Second dose: During August
How will I know if I’m eligible?
- Year 13 students will be contacted directly by the NHS via the NHS App, text message, email or letter, depending on the contact details held on their NHS record.
- Those under 25 and starting university for the first time will be able to book directly with a participating community pharmacy once appointments become available.
Is the vaccine available at Marston Forest Healthcare?
No. This vaccination programme is not being delivered by GP practices.
